Girchi drafts a bill to decriminalize purchase, possession of marijuana, cannabis

Girchi MPs have drafted a bill which aims to decriminalize the purchase and possession of marijuana and cannabis.
Girchi leader Iago Khvichia has already registered the bill in parliament.
“Consumption of cannabis and its products has been legal in Georgia since 2018. Nevertheless, the persecution of people in the country still continues on this ground.“
We have received information from the Ministry of Justice that 311 people are probationers, and 84 people are serving their sentence for purchase and possession of cannabis products,” Khvichia said earlier today.Marijuana consumption became legal in Georgia by the decision of the Constitutional Court in 2018, while the cultivation and the sale are still punishable.
Marijuana consumption is prohibited in the situations when it violates the interests of others.
Marijuana consumption remains prohibited at and in educational institutions, during the presence of underage people and at the places of public assembly, like public transport, etc.
