Girchi – More Freedom opposition party representatives have blocked entrances of the country’s State Security Service with cars in six main cities of Georgia earlier today.

The party was demanding the holding of fully proportional elections with a two percent threshold, holding of snap parliamentary elections in the spring and the transfer of former president Mikheil Saakashvili to a civil clinic from a prison hospital.

In total 10 members and leaders of the party were detained by police for the action as blocking the entrances of state buildings is banned by the law.

The party founder, Zurab Japaridze, was evacuated with his car from the Tbilisi headquarters of the State Security Service and was later released by 200 GEL fine.

Japaridze still has the MP status and he was not arrested.
