Iago Khvichia, a member of the opposition party Girchi, articulated on Friday the party’s primary objective in the upcoming parliamentary elections – securing seats that would enable active participation in the decision-making processes of the legislature.
Khvichia emphasized that Girchi aimed to attain a significant representation in the parliament, which would allow them to play a pivotal role in shaping laws and policies.
He expressed hope that neither the ruling Georgian Dream party nor the United National Movement, the largest opposition faction in the country, would secure more than 30 percent of the vote. In such a scenario, Girchi could play a role in advancing legislation and making critical decisions, the lawmaker said.
With the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26, the Georgian Dream party has announced its ambition to secure a constitutional majority, requiring at least 113 seats in the 150-member parliament. They have cited the opposition as the ‘weakest ever,’ underscoring their determination to dominate the legislative landscape.
