Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze, within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Georgian and Azerbaijani students participating in a summer camp in the city of Guba.
Mikanadze, together with the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farid Gaybov, spoke to the students. He focused on the importance of implementing joint youth projects to further strengthen cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan, his office said on Friday.
"The fact that so many talented young people have gathered together today and are spending their time in such an interesting and enjoyable way once again confirms the strong, harmonious and friendly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
We have truly reached a high level of mutual understanding and cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is based on common interests, historical ties and the friendship between the two countries.
I believe that the camp will greatly contribute to the deepening of future relations between students. We will actively continue to implement joint educational youth initiatives, and the camps, like other diverse projects, will become systematic," said Mikanadze.
In his speech, Mikanadze also emphasized the importance of the involvement of the Presidents of Georgia and Azerbaijan – Mikheil Kavelashvili and Ilham Aliyev – in the implementation of the camp and said that the successful holding of the camp was possible precisely with their support and assistance.
Mikanadze thanked Gaibov for the fruitful cooperation. According to him, the “exemplary partnership” will continue in the future and very soon Georgia will host Georgian and Azerbaijani students.
The meeting with the youth participating in the camp was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze.
The camp in Azerbaijan is being held at three locations in Guba, Baku and Sumgait as part of the Georgian-Azerbaijani Youth Week, with 90 students participating. The week also includes excursions, various sports, educational and cultural activities, and a youth forum.
The Georgian-Azerbaijani Youth Week, which began on July 22 and ends on July 27, provides students with an opportunity to learn about each other's cultures, as well as to strengthen youth ties and share experiences among students.
