Georgia’s Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Givi Mikanadze, has congratulated students, teachers, parents and the wider school community on the start of the new academic year, highlighting education as the “driving force” behind the country’s future.

In a statement on Monday, Mikanadze called the day “truly special”, noting that first-graders were entering school for the first time while other students and teachers were returning to the learning process.

He said the government’s “key goal” was to ensure that every student had equal access to quality education and the opportunity to develop their potential.

“To achieve this, we continue implementing infrastructure projects so that schools across the country meet modern standards and provide a proper learning environment,” he said, adding that this year had begun with “many renovated schools” as a result of state efforts to improve both educational infrastructure and working conditions.

Mikanadze further expressed gratitude to teachers, school directors and staff for their “invaluable contribution” to educating future generations, saying: “Education is the force that shapes the bright future of our country.”
