Georgian filmmaker Goga Khaindrava has called on the government and parliament to remove references to the European Union (EU) and NATO from Georgia’s Constitution, describing the mention of the organisations as a “disgraceful situation.”
Speaking on the government-leaning Imedi TV, Khaindrava claimed that both the EU and NATO “no longer represent anything” and accused the European Union of becoming “a hub of corruption and moral decay.”
“It is a shameful situation when we talk about the EU and NATO - organisations that have practically collapsed. The EU no longer exists; it has turned into a nest of depravity and corruption,” Khaindrava said.
He also criticised recent statements by EU representatives, alleging that an EU spokesperson had called on Georgian citizens to join “revolutionary processes” instead of voting. According to Khaindrava, such actions reflected what he described as the EU’s “complete degradation.”
“We see the level of decline - 540 people in the European Parliament raise their hands to adopt a resolution they haven’t even read. This shows the condition they’re in,” he added.
Khaindrava, who has been a vocal critic of Western institutions in recent years, reiterated his position that Georgia should reconsider its constitutional orientation toward the EU and NATO, arguing that these organisations “no longer function as democratic institutions.”
