The Government of Georgia on Monday announced an amnesty for private houses built without official permission that will concern about one million citizens, ahead of the next year Parliamentary elections.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has instructed Justice Minister Rati Bregadze to work on the construction amnesty project, the Government Administration said.

“Discussing the change, it was emphasized that with this decision, on the one hand, the practice of building illegal houses will be eliminated in the future, on the other hand, citizens who have individual houses in rural areas or cities, for which construction documents have not been issued, will no longer be obliged to go through a difficult and costly legalization procedure”, the Government press office said.
