Gov’t announces increase in taxation rate of gambling business

Irakli Garibashvili, the Georgian Prime Minister, on Friday announced his office had initiated an increase in the taxation rate of the domestic gambling business from 10 percent to 15 percent. 

 

He also said the withdrawal of money from the gaming business would be taxed at five percent  instead of the current two percent, saying “unfortunately, too many of our citizens are involved in the business”. 

 

Garibashvili said the total turnover of the gaming business had increased from 48 billion to 52 billion GEL in 2022, which he said was a “catastrophic figure”. 

 

“Last year we made important changes when we banned advertising and limited our citizens under 25 to participate in the gaming business. 1,500,000 citizens were automatically restricted, but, despite these efforts, we see that too many citizens are still involved”, the PM said. 
He added due to the changes the state budget would receive additional 400 million GEL next year.
