Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday claimed the “radical wing” of the domestic opposition and their affiliates both “inside and outside the country” had plans to spark unrest in the country and overthrow the Government, which he stressed “will never happen” and the “Governments in  the country will be changed peacefully, only via elections”.

Kaladze’s press comment came following the statement by the currently imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili earlier this week, in which he called on the opposition for unity to change the authorities “via elections” if the European Union rejected Georgia’s candidacy later this year.

Kaladze also said the latest claims by the country’s State Security Service, that former  officials currently serving in Ukraine were allegedly engaged in the opposition’s plans to overthrow the Georgian Dream Government, were “trustworthy”.

“The population will decide who should be in power tomorrow and to whom they should entrust the fate of the country. Those who promise illegal actions, of course, this will be followed by a reaction and everyone will be given an appropriate answer, both inside and outside the country,” said Kaladze.
