Gov’t declares August 7 mourning day as landslide kills 7

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday said Monday would be declared a mourning day in the country as a landslide in Racha region of western Georgia on Thursday killed at least seven. 

 

“We had a discussion today and active work will continue on the weekend, and according to our decision, Monday will be declared a day of mourning”, Gharibashvili said.

 

The landslide hit the Shovi resort of Oni Municipality in the afternoon on Thursday. Search and rescue efforts are in progress. At least 35 remain missing in the disaster zone.
