The United National Movement MP Levan Bezhashvili said on Tuesday that the ruling Georgian Dream’s “inactivity” towards the increased flow of Russians on the backdrop of ongoing conflict in Ukraine, was “equivalent to a crime”.

The MP said that the opposition had offered several options to the government on how to halt the influx of Russian nationals, noting that “now it is the government’s turn to act”.

“The inaction of the Georgian government is absolutely unacceptable. The parliamentary opposition, the UNM among them, offered the government and the public several options for solving this problem, such as the restriction of residence for Russian citizens, the restriction of property acquisition, the issue of imposing fee, establishment of a visa regime”, Bezhashvili said.

The ruling party had dismissed the reports on the “dramatic increase” in figures as a “deliberate provocation”,claiming that the majority of Russians left the country shortly after the arrival.

The GD had many times accused the UNM of making moves “to drag Georgia into the war”.
