Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze of Georgia on Tuesday announced funding for educational projects under the Patriarchate had surged by five million GEL, bringing the total state budget allocation for Patriarchate-affiliated organizations to 60 million GEL.
Addressing media inquiries following the Innovation and Technology Agency event, the Prime Minister clarified that while there was a standard allocation of 25 million for the Patriarchate, an additional 30 million was earmarked in the 2024 state budget specifically for educational initiatives, with a recent increase of five million.
Kobakhidze emphasized this funding surge was unrelated to any electoral considerations.
“This funding increase primarily supports numerous educational institutions, including schools and higher education facilities,” Kobakhidze stated. “In total, the funding boost benefits several dozen educational entities.”
The government officially issued the relevant decree on March 15th.
