The Government of Georgia on Monday unveiled a plan to address the housing needs of socially vulnerable families with three or more children facing difficult living conditions.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili emphasized his office’s commitment to providing new accommodations for approximately 1,000 families in need.
The initiative, with a budget of ₾50 million ($19 million), aims to create decent living conditions for families grappling with socio-economic hardships, the Government press office said. Eligibility for the program is specifically tailored to families with three or more underage children, all of whom must be registered in the unified database of socially vulnerable families maintained by the Social Service Agency.
However, certain criteria exclude families from participation. Families listed in the unified electronic database of displaced or eco-migrant families managed by the domestic Internally Displaced Persons, Ecomigrants, and Livelihood Agency, as well as homeless families who have previously received accommodations or appropriate monetary compensation for housing, are not eligible for the programme.
Decisions regarding the housing of eligible families will be entrusted to a dedicated commission, which will take into account various factors, including the number of children and the family’s socio-economic situation. The program is designed to run until the end of 2025.
