Gov’t to launch activities in rural Georgia to encourage vaccination

Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze says that the Georgian government will soon launch activities related to agricultural work to encourage coronavirus vaccination in rural parts of the country. 

 

He said that the rate of vaccination remains low, standing at about 6,000 vaccinated individuals on a daily basis, and that the population over 60 is more passive than youngsters. 

 

Gamkrelidze said that individuals over 60 are a risk group and called on them to receive the coronavirus vaccine. 

 

“The infection rate in the population who have received both shots of the coronavirus vaccine is nine times lower than in unvaccinated individuals,” Gamkrelidze said. 

 

In previous months the government initiated a lottery for the vaccinated population to boost the vaccination process. 

 

1,882,118 individuals have received at least one dose of the vaccine in the country since March 2021, of which  879,630 have been completely vaccinated.

 

The country has reported 4,775 new cases of coronavirus, 1,623 recoveries and 37 deaths in the past 24 hours, while 27,031 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia.
