The Georgian Government on Monday claimed its agencies would develop an action plan over deoligarchisation matter that would be “in compliance with the Venice Commission recommendations and the European Union membership candidacy conditions”.
It pledged the action plan, which would come ahead of the European Commission’s report on Georgia’s implementation of the 12-point conditions for candidacy outlined in June, would “accomplish” the country’s meeting the reform agenda.
The Georgian Dream ruling party earlier this year announced it delayed adoption of the deoligarchisation bill, related to one of 12 conditions for EU candidacy, following the Venice Commission opinion in June that recommended the country to develop a “systemic approach” to the matter.
An interim report released by the European Commission later that month said Georgia had fully met three of 12 recommendations, party fulfilled seven conditions, had “limited progress” on deoligarchisation and “no progress” on media pluralism.
The Commission is scheduled to present its final report on the country’s implementation of the conditions in October that will be used by the European Council in December to grant the country the status.
