Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday said the country’s authorities had plans to launch the construction of Anaklia deep-sea port in the country’s west this Autumn, adding the economy ministry would provide details.
Speaking at the weekly government meeting, the PM also announced the construction of a new airport and a five-year programme for the development of cities and resorts with an estimated cost of one billion GEL.
He also claimed prices of fuel, products, food and bread had dropped “significantly”.
“Our task should be to maintain our target, the five percent inflation this year, to maintain high economic growth”, he said.
“We have a fairly high economic growth of seven percent this year, and we also have quite positive and optimistic data in the direction of tourism. Trade is also increasing”, Garibashvili added.
Anaklia Development Consortium, the winner of the previous tender to build the deep sea port near Georgia’s Russian-controlled Abkhazia region, claimed the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, deliberately disrupted the project as it was “against the Kremlin’s interests”.
