When the Georgian Dream (GD) ruling party officials and members are attacking our Western allies, it means that they are weakening the country, leaving Georgia alone in the face of Russia, Mikheil Daushvili, a member of the For Georgia opposition party founded by former PM of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia in 2021, said on Wednesday.

He said that the Georgian Dream authorities were trying to assure the public that the West was trying to drag Georgia into Russia’s war in Ukraine and that it [the GD] was the “only savior” preventing this to happen.

“This is a lie. The Georgian Dream does not protect us from war. Just on the contrary, through their anti-Western propaganda, the GD is weakening the country and leaving us alone in the face of Russian aggression,” Daushvili stated.

The GD chair Irakli Kobakhidze said earlier this week that recent allegations of a Georgian judge, that he was removed from the US Embassy-funded programme due to his verdict in the case of the opposition-minded Mtavari channel head Nika Gvaramia, “were serious and needed to be answered.”

He said that the ruling party could also  initiate a bill to “prevent any interference in the judiciary.”

Ambassador Kelly Degnan dismissed the allegations, stating the Embassy had expressed its concerns over the case ‘quite publicly.”
