Court remands special forces officers accused of violence against Rogava, Maisashvili in custody

A court has ordered pre-trial detention for three former employees of Georgia’s Special Tasks Department accused of physically assaulting Guram Rogava and Zviad Maisashvili, including one individual who is currently employed by the Security Police.

The ruling was delivered by Judge Valerian Bugianishvili.

All three defendants are charged with exceeding official powers through the use of violence. One of the accused also faces an additional charge of unlawfully obstructing a journalist’s professional activities through violence.

The case concerns alleged incidents of physical abuse involving Rogava and Maisashvili.

Earlier the same day, the court also ordered pre-trial detention for law enforcement officers accused of violence against opposition politician Levan Khabeishvili during protest rallies.
