GYLA files lawsuit to European Court on behalf of 16 media representatives

The Georgian Young Lawyers Association on Monday said that it had filed a lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of 16 media representatives over July events last year, which saw dozens of journalists attacked by right-wing activists during Tbilisi Pride events. 

The organisation claimed that the events saw several articles of the human rights convention violated, which included prohibition of torture, freedom of expression, right to an effective remedy and prohibition of discrimination.

“We have been actively communicating with investigative agencies for one year, both with the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office, the General Prosecutor’s Office and, finally, with the Special Investigation Service. Out of 10 applications/complaints sent by us, the answer was received only two times, both times only from the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office”, GYLA said.
