Hadron Therapy Center construction, part of “unique project” in region, kicks off in Kutaisi

The Hadron Therapy Center construction was launched in Georgia’s western Kutaisi city on Tuesday.

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili said at the ground-breaking ceremony that it would be an international scale medical facility both for Georgians and foreigners.

He stated that the project was fully funded by the Cartu foundation and would be carried out in cooperation with IBA, the world’s leading company producing proton therapy equipment for cancer diseases.

“We are starting the most important part of the project, the construction of the hadronic therapy center, and this center is a key part of the strategic development plan of the project,” Garibashvili suggested.

The company has already built two ultra-modern cyclotrons for the hadronic therapy center.

One will be entirely devoted to the treatment of cancer with ultra-modern therapy methods, which were particularly effective for the treatment of cancer patients and especially children.

“This will be an unprecedented and unique project in the region,” Garibashvili said.

The second cyclotron will ensure the establishment of a proton therapy center and scientific research laboratory, which will conduct  research in medical, nuclear and radiation physics and biophysics.

The construction will be carried out by the company IDOM Consulting, which has half a century of experience in designing centers in this field.
