A hall has been opened in the Georgian parliament which is named after Maro Makashvili, a Georgian National hero who died during the Red Army invasion of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia back in 1921.

It will be the second hall in the state legislature which is named after a well-known Georgian woman.

Up to now there was only Kind Tamar’s hall there.

Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava, head of parliament’s Gender Equality Council Nino Tsilosani and Swedish Ambassador Ulrik Tidestrom cut a symbolic ribbon during the event earlier today.

A student and a Red Cross nurse, Makashvili became one of the symbols of the three-year Georgian democratic state that fought for its independence.
