Georgian health authorities urged the public, who had received the coronavirus vaccine, to get the booster dose, while those who earlier refused to get the vaccine, changed their minds as the country reported 621 new cases on Wednesday.

“The situation is no longer stable. The positivity rate has reached almost five. Over the past two months, daily cases stood at average 100-200, while the figure has reached 600 and more,” head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze said on Thursday.

He suggested that “fortunately” the majority of patients did not require hospital treatment.

Georgians are obliged to wear facemasks only in medical facilities.

All other coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.

The Omicron  BA.4 and BA.5 substrains are now circulating in Georgia.

Health authorities stated on Wednesday that the peak may come in Autumn.
