Georgian Deputy Health Minister, Tamar Gabunia, says that all conditions are ensured for a proper medical care for former president, Mikheil Saakashvili, in Gldani Prison No.18 hospital, where the ex-president was transferred yesterday on the 39th day of hunger strike.
She states that the MRT device is also being installed in the facility which will be ready in the coming two-three days.
Saakashvili was demanding his transfer to a civil clinic and stated that he was attacked by Gldani prison staff yesterday.
However, the Georgian Justice Ministry responded that Saakashvili insulted the prison personnel and also damaged medical equipment.
Saakashvili claims he returned to Georgia after eight years in political exile to remove the Georgian Dream from power.
His United National Movement party is holding rallies in Tbilisi and regions, demanding the release of the former president.
Saakashvili, who is a citizen of Ukraine and currently chairs the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian National Reforms Council, was convicted in Georgia back in 2018 in absentia for abuse of power and was sentenced to six years in prison.
He has also been charged with illegal takeover of property, illegal rally dispersal, embezzlement and illegally crossing the border.
