Heavy rains and floods have hitted Georgia’s western Samegrelo region, damaging houses, buildings, roads and electrical wiring, with part of the population evacuated.

The natural disaster has hit Martvili, Abasha, Chkhorotsku, Senaki, Poti, Zugdidi, Khobi and Tsalenjikha municipalities.

Several opposition representatives have urged the central authorities to take actions to support the local population, claiming “many of them are combating the floods with their own efforts”.
