The US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, known as the Helsinki Commission, has voiced concerns regarding Georgia’s recent parliamentary elections, asserting that evidence points to significant discrepancies between the election results and the actual will of the Georgian people.

“In the days following the Georgian parliamentary elections, Georgian civil society, politicians, and observers have presented clear evidence that the election results do not represent the will of the Georgian people,” Helsinki Commission stated.

In their statement, the Commission emphasized that independent data collected by both local and third-party observers before and during the election reveals widespread irregularities, calling into question the legitimacy of the outcomes.

The Commission also cited Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, who has publicly refused to recognize the results, labeling them as fraudulent and attributing interference efforts to Russia’s influence aimed at destabilizing Georgia’s democratic institutions.

“As President Zourabichvili, opposition parties, and civil society chart a path forward for an election process that reflects the genuine will of the Georgian people, the US and EU must stand by them and take definitive steps to help Georgians defend their democracy,” the statement reads.
