The future of the visa-free regime for Georgia hinges on developments within the country, EU Ambassador Pavel Herczynski stated. He noted that any decision regarding the suspension of the visa regime would require a majority vote among EU member states and would be influenced by the situation in Georgia.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Herczynski highlighted that the foreign ministers of EU countries will discuss Georgia’s situation on November 18.
“We continue to monitor the developments closely. The OSCE is the main organization assessing the elections using international standards. They have pointed out significant violations that breach these standards. We have urged the Central Election Commission to investigate these violations promptly and have also brought this to the attention of the prosecution,” he said.
Herczynski emphasized that there are various pathways for decision-making concerning potential sanctions.
“I have explained multiple times that imposing sanctions within the EU requires unanimity. The suspension of the visa regime necessitates a majority vote, and any decision will be made based on developments occurring in Georgia,” he added.
