European Commission spokesperson Anita Hipper says the European Union remains concerned about broader regional security issues linked to Russia’s military presence in countries including Georgia and Moldova.
Hipper said the EU is monitoring both military and non-military “hybrid actions” carried out by Russia across the region.
“We have concerns regarding broader security when we look at the presence of Russian troops in countries such as Georgia and Moldova, as well as all the hybrid actions Russia is carrying out, both military and non-military in nature,” she said.
Hipper reiterated that Russia is an “aggressor state” and must be held accountable, stressing that the EU seeks a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine.
According to the spokesperson, discussions among EU foreign ministers were based on proposals first presented in February, focusing on increasing pressure on Russia rather than Ukraine. She added that the issue of regional security had already been discussed within the EU and work on the matter would continue.
