Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said if President Salome Zourabichvili pardoned the currently imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili in seven-eight months, it would mean she “put her chair first than state interests”.
He also claimed the recently initiated impeachment against Zourabichvili by his party was a “won game”, adding he was personally engaged in drafting a suit for the Constitutional court that should determine whether the President had violated the country’s constitution through her visits to Europe without the Government’s consent.
Kobakhidze also accused Zourabichvili of making an alliance with the “radical” United National Movement opposition party, which he said had “never” respected “neither the law, nor the constitution”.
The President’s Office said last week her trip in the EU aimed at facilitating Georgia’s obtaining the bloc’s membership candidate status later this year.
