Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s Prime Minister, on Monday said if Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump won elections in November, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war could end sooner.

Kobakhidze also claimed the potential shift could change “attitude to Georgia”, amidst existing  tensions between Tbilisi and Washington, as Georgia in May adopted the controversial foreign influence transparency law.

“If Trump wins the elections, the war in Ukraine will end sooner and, accordingly, our region [South Caucasus] will calm down sooner, which will change the attitude towards Georgia in particular”, he said.

Kobakhidze, however, added the decision was up to the American people.

“Of course, we cannot interfere in anyone’s elections, especially in the presidential elections of such a large country. If there is peace in the region, the attitude towards Georgia will also change, this is the only thing that can be said in this regard, the rest is the choice of the American people”, Kobakhidze noted.
