In front of the Palais de l’Europe, the flags of Europe and Georgia were lowered to honor the late Ilia II.

The decision was made by Alain Berset as a mark of respect for the memory of the Catholicos-Patriarch.

Ilia II passed away on 17 March at the age of 93. A period of national mourning has been declared in Georgia. He will be laid to rest at Sioni Cathedral on 22 March.
