Police in Georgia have arrested two men on suspicion of large-scale drug offences following operations in the Imereti region of western Georgia.
The Interior Ministry said on Monday officers from Zestaponi and Samtredia police departments had detained a 49-year-old man, identified as T.K., and a 54-year-old man, L.G., who has a prior criminal record.
Searches of the suspects’ homes, yards and outbuildings uncovered 207 cannabis plants and a quantity of dried marijuana, the MIA said.
The ministry noted the pair were accused of the illegal possession and cultivation of large and especially large amounts of drugs. If convicted, they face up to 12 years in prison under Georgia’s criminal code.
