Police in western Georgia have detained two individuals in separate operations involving narcotics and illegal firearms, the Interior Ministry has said.

Officers from the Ministry’s Imereti Police Department arrested a 21-year-old man, identified only as N.K., on suspicion of possessing and preparing to distribute a large quantity of methadone. According to officials, investigators recovered 32 packages of the drug, allegedly prepared for sale, during a personal search and from locations indicated by the suspect.

The investigation is underway under articles 260 and 260¹ of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

In a separate case, police detained a 67-year-old man, identified as M.M., for the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. A search of his home uncovered an automatic rifle, a hunting firearm, and 152 rounds of ammunition, the ministry reported.
