Two Latvian citizens have been arrested in western Georgia on suspicion of drug trafficking, the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) confirmed on Thursday.

The MIA said the arrests followed a series of operational and investigative actions carried out by the Imereti Police Department. The suspects, identified only by their initials - N.K., born in 1979, and G.G., born in 1978 - are accused of illegally purchasing, storing, and attempting to sell a particularly large quantity of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

The ministry reported that law enforcement officers had seized significant amounts of drugs during a personal search of the suspects. Confiscated substances included approximately half a kilogram of cocaine and nearly a kilogram of ketamine, MDMA, and mephedrone.

In addition to the narcotics, police also recovered equipment commonly used for drug distribution, including an electric scale, adhesive tapes, polyethylene ziplock bags, and other packaging materials.

If convicted, the suspects could face sentences ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment.
