Two foreign nationals arrested in western Georgia on major drug charges

The offences carry a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment

Police in Georgia’s Imereti region arrested two foreign nationals on charges related to the illegal purchase, possession and facilitation of the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotics, the Interior Ministry said.
Those detained were a Ukrainian citizen, born in 1985, identified as A.K., and a Moldovan citizen, born in 2005, identified as I.G. The arrests took place at different times.
According to the ministry, officers seized more than half a kilogram of the narcotic substance methadone, prepared for sale, during searches of the suspects’ personal belongings and temporary residences. Materials used for packaging drugs were also recovered.
An investigation is under way under Articles 260 and 260¹ of Georgia’s Criminal Code, offences that carry a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
