Police in western Georgia have arrested a man on suspicion of large-scale drug trafficking and the illegal possession of ammunition, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.
The officers from the Imereti Police Department detained a man born in 1992, identified only as J.D., following an intensive investigation carried out with a court warrant.
Investigators alleged that J.D. was involved in the sale of the narcotic drug methadone. The Interior Ministry said the case was supported by covert audio and video recordings obtained during the investigation.
Police reported that drugs sold illegally by the suspect were seized as evidence. A search of his residence also led to the discovery of live ammunition.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260¹ and 236 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which relate to the illegal acquisition, storage and sale of narcotic substances, as well as the unlawful possession of ammunition.
If convicted, the suspect faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
