Police in western Imereti region of Georgia have seized a particularly large quantity of narcotics and arrested four people on drug-related charges, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Saturday.
The suspects were detained at different times on charges of illegal purchase and possession of narcotics, as well as assisting in their distribution by a group acting in prior agreement.
Among those arrested are both Georgian citizens and foreign nationals, the Ministry said.
Law enforcement officers seized a particularly large quantity of the narcotic substance methadone as evidence during searches of the suspects’ persons and homes, as well as from locations indicated by the detainees where the drugs had allegedly been placed for sale.
Investigators also confiscated materials used for packaging narcotics and money believed to have been obtained from drug sales.
The crime is punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
