Mikheil Saakashvili, the currently imprisoned former president of Georgia, on Friday announced a “very active engagement” in politics as he said “despite poor hearth”.

In his social media post, Saakashvili claimed the “last straw was the parade of traitors that I saw yesterday in the Supreme Council of Adjara”, in reference to the claims by Tornike Rizhvadze, the head of Adjara government, who said 2008 war with Russia was “cowardly lost”.

“Despite my health condition, I intend to be very actively involved in Georgian politics, parallel to my involvement in Ukraine’s politics”, Saakashvili said, adding “we should not wait for the victory of Ukraine with folded hands, but actively bring them closer together with our innovative and courageous actions”.  “From today I intend to participate in all courts where my condition allows”, he added, urging all “pro-European forces” to unite.

Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 on his clandestine return after eight years, just ahead of municipal elections.

Currently he is serving his six-year-term for abuse of power while in office, while three other cases involving him are still pending.
