More than 40 states have responded to India's call for help in the fight against coronavirus, the Times of India news_copypaper reported on Friday, citing Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar.
According to the news_copypaper, Jaishankar appealed to the countries of the world with a request to supply medical oxygen to Indian hospitals, which is now sorely lacking. The Indian authorities are also asking for help with equipment for the production of liquid oxygen and medicines.
The spread of the coronavirus in India has deteriorated dramatically in recent weeks. Hospitals are overcrowded and there is a shortage of oxygen cylinders. Residents have to wait for help on the streets outside hospitals in ambulances, while others have to lie on makeshift sleeping places.
At the same time, it was also reported that a particularly dangerous "Indian" strain of coronavirus was found in the country.
India has the second highest number of diagnosed coronavirus cases in the world. In total, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 18.7 million infections have been detected in the country, more than 208 thousand infected have died.
