Koba Gabunia, the former Deputy Infrastructure Minister of Georgia, has been placed in pretrial detention as a preventive measure.

The decision was made by Judge Nato Khujadze, who upheld the prosecution’s motion.

The case concerns the fraudulent embezzlement of ₾9,365,801 ($3,450,223).

Gabunia is under investigation under several articles Georgia’s Criminal Code, which collectively envisage nine to 12 years of imprisonment as a potential sentence.
