Pawel Herczynski, the European Union ambassador to Georgia, on Monday said the international community had imposed sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine last year, expressing hopes “like-minded countries that want to join the bloc” would follow the same approach.

The ambassador’s remarks came in response to media reports about the construction of a  four-lane highway that will connect Georgia with Russia.  “We have seen many times what the EU’s position is when it comes to contacts with Russia, flights to Russia and Russian tourists.

After Russia’s brutal and unprovoked, full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we have collectively decided to limit movement, contacts, said the diplomat.

He claimed the restrictions had made it “very difficult” for Russians to come to Europe.
