The Georgian Special Investigation Service on Friday said it had arrested a senior inspector of the Personal Protection Division of the Security Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for unlawful possession of arms, following a deadly incident in central Tbilisi on Thursday, which left one killed and two others injured.

The agency said the arrested individual was with a relative of a person he safeguarded when an individual approached them and shot the latter to his limbs, while the inspector also fired shots to him when the perpetrator attempted to go on the run.

One of the injured is now undergoing treatment in Tbilisi hospital in critical condition, while another victim, an onlooker, had received lighter injuries.
