Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani has hosted NATO Secretary General’s newly appointed Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Kevin Hamilton.
Chikovani congratulated Hamilton on his appointment during the introductory meeting and wished him success in his future work, the ministry press office said on Friday.
The sides discussed the main directions of NATO-Georgia cooperation and future prospects for partnership, with particular attention paid to achievements made under years of cooperation, including initiatives within the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package.
Hamilton thanked the Georgian side for its contribution to broader Euro-Atlantic security efforts.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of practical cooperation with NATO, particularly in the context of defence transformation and increasing interoperability with the alliance.
As part of his visit, Hamilton is also expected to visit the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Centre, where he will review the centre’s capabilities and infrastructure developed with the support of international partners.
