Irakli Kadagishvili, chairman of Georgia’s Regional Policy and Local Government Committee, has accused the Venice Commission of political bias, saying Georgia exposes how the body’s decisions are often framed by political preambles rather than purely legal reasoning.

Speaking after the US withdrew support from 66 organizations, including the Venice Commission, Kadagishvili said the institution was originally meant to provide impartial legal assessments aligned with constitutions and international norms.

“Georgia has always served as a litmus test, showing that many decisions were shaped solely by political considerations, effectively neutralizing their legal and judicial aspects. This reflects a deeper internal erosion within several international institutions over the years,” Kadagishvili added.
