The leader of Georgia’s parliamentary majority, Irakli Kirtskhalia, on Tuesday commented on TBC Bank’s cooperation with opposition activist Nana Dikhaminjia, stating that a financial institution of such scale is obliged to publicly respond when its platform is used by what he described as a “radical” figure.
Speaking on the Public Broadcaster, Kirtskhalia highlighted that major companies operating in Georgia carry a special responsibility toward society. According to him, when a bank positions itself as socially responsible, it must also be accountable for how its platforms and projects are used.
“When we are talking about such a large bank, it is at the very least obligated to respond to the use of its platform by this radical individual,” Kirtskhalia said. He described Dikhaminjia as someone who, in his words, “hates everyone and everything” and “fights anyone who does not share her views”.
Kirtskhalia stressed that TBC Bank, as one of the country’s largest financial institutions and a major contributor to the economy, should demonstrate a high standard of corporate responsibility. He argued that the issue is not limited to political views, but rather concerns the principles of responsible corporate behaviour.
“When a company openly declares that it fully shares social responsibility, as any authoritative company should, it must be especially careful. If we see a radical individual using the platform of such a company to spread hostility toward anyone who disagrees with her views, then at a minimum we should hear an assessment from the bank,” he said.
The criticism is linked to TBC Bank’s educational project, within which Dikhaminjia participates as a contributor on the topic of technological education.
