Parliamentary Majority Leader Irakli Kirtskhalia has criticised a number of foreign ambassadors over statements made yesterday, questioning what he described as their tone toward Georgia.

Kirtskhalia said some foreign representatives had not only openly called on Georgia to impose sanctions on Russia but had also, in his view, relied on their “agents” and taken part in attempts to destabilise the country through public statements.

“How do they even dare to speak to our country in this tone?” he said.

Kirtskhalia further claimed that those same actors are now seeking to restore political and economic relations with Russia, adding that Georgia had previously warned about what he called “narrow mercantile interests.”

He said the underlying reason for the criticism of Georgia is that the country did not meet external expectations.

“The reason is one — Georgia disappointed them. They expected us to become their obedient servants. How dared Georgia defend its sovereignty and freedom and save the country from a bloody war? They could not accept this,” Kirtskhalia said.
