Georgia’s geographic position, particularly as a transit hub, is irreplaceable, Parliamentary Majority Leader Irakli Kirtskhalia said on Wednesday on the programme Night Courier.
Kirtskhalia opened by discussing US Vice President JD Vance’s recent visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan, highlighting its political and historical significance.
“Our friends in Armenia and Azerbaijan recognise the historical role Georgia has played between these two nations,” he said.
He dismissed recent “anti-state” or populist criticisms of Georgia as politically motivated and lacking significance, stressing that the country’s strategic location is enduring.
“The geopolitical and geographic position given to us by nature, which we protect, ensures that Georgia can stand firmly, economically and politically. No alternative corridor or transit route can replace this role. Throughout history, any state or empire that ignored geography failed,” Kirtskhalia said.
He added that Georgia’s position continues to attract foreign investment and remains a key transit link connecting Europe and Asia, as highlighted in recent European Commission reports.
