Travel time on the Tbilisi–Batumi railway route, linking the Georgian capital to the Black Sea resort city of Batumi, will be reduced by half an hour by the 2026 summer season as a result of ongoing optimisation of railway operations, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Wednesday at an event marking the completion of the Georgian Railway modernisation project.

Kobakhidze stated that the Government is actively working to streamline railway operational processes, remove existing administrative barriers and digitalise services, which will improve passenger experience and efficiency.

“We are actively optimising railway operational processes, eliminating administrative barriers and digitalising services. As a result, by the 2026 summer season, travel time on the Tbilisi–Batumi route will be reduced by 30 minutes,” the Prime Minister said.

He thanked everyone involved in implementing the railway modernisation project, highlighting their professionalism and dedication.

“Today’s achievement is the result of your professionalism and hard work. Strong states are built on projects like this and it is through such steps that a better future for Georgia is created,” Kobakhidze noted.
