Irakli Kobakhidze, the candidate for Prime Minister of Georgia, announced that the first phase of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project in the country’s west is set to be completed by 2029.

Addressing Parliament during a plenary session ahead of his Governmnet’s confidence vote, he highlighted the strategic significance of the project, particularly for the western Samegrelo region.

“We hope that this project will be completed by 2028, although 2029 is the maximum deadline for completion,” Kobakhidze said, adding that the first phase will enable the port to handle 600,000 containers annually with $600 million in investments.

A Belgian company is actively conducting infrastructure works, which are expected to continue intensively, he claimed.
