Georgia will host the World Judo Championships in 2029, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced, saying the decision has already been approved by the international federation.
Kobakhidze on Friday said the Georgian authorities would ensure the tournament is organised to the highest standards.
The PM made the announcement while praising Georgia’s hosting of the European Judo Championships, which recently took place in the country.
He said international guests had described the event as being organised to “unprecedentedly high standards” and thanked Georgia’s Ministry of Sport, Sports Minister Shalva Gogoladze and the Georgian Judo Federation for their involvement.
Kobakhidze also highlighted Georgia’s performance at the European Championships, where the national team secured four gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal, which he described as the country’s best result in the history of the competition.
