Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said that Georgia’s upcoming local elections on 4 October “demonstrate the Georgian people’s trust in democratic institutions and their aspiration to live in a stable, modern state.”
In an interview with Euronews, Kobakhidze stressed that the ruling Georgian Dream party continued to enjoy growing public confidence.
“These elections reaffirm the Georgian people’s trust in democratic institutions and their constant aspiration to live in a stable and modern state. In the last parliamentary elections, Georgian Dream received 54% of the vote - a clear signal of public trust, which continues to grow,” he said.
Kobakhidze added that the upcoming polls were not only about choosing local leaders but also about “protecting the model that delivers results.” He accused opposition groups of trying to turn democratic processes into a tool for destabilisation.
“Democracy is not only about protest - it is also about work and results. Our government’s work has been clear: safeguarding economic growth, investing in our people, and maintaining peace in a difficult region,” the PM claimed.
